Codes of conduct and lack thereof

My mother didn’t like me hanging around with Jack. She sensed that he lacked a moral compass or control to check his impulses. It was about 1966 when my best friend Philip and I hitchhiked to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, which was then the coolest place for fifteen-year-old Tewksbury, Massachusetts boys like us to hang out, and Jack somehow managed to tag along. We strolled along the boardwalk and met a trio of pretty girls our age.

We made introductions, paired off for walks along the beach, and made a plan to meet back at the boardwalk in two hours. Philip and I got on well with the girls we accompanied, but upon return we saw Jack being arrested. “You’re arresting me for swearing?” Jack said to the cop. “That’s against the law here?”

“Yup,” he said as he walked Jack toward the cruiser.

“He’s a garbage mouth!” said the girl who made the complaint. “Come on,” she said to the girls with us. “We don’t want to be with these guys.” Jack was actually arrested for making making lewd and lascivious remarks in public. Philip and I hitchhiked back to Tewksbury without him and with soiled reputations for being associated with him. It was my first exposure to what we now call sexual harassment.

The way some men act, they should be ashamed but they aren’t, and that’s the problem. When exposed they say they’re ashamed, but are they really? I don’t think so. Jack wasn’t. They regret their facade of respectability is gone, but that’s not shame. Sexual harassment has been around forever but fifty years ago it wasn’t tolerated in the company of good men. Then it was for decades. Now suddenly, it isn’t. Women are reporting it again like that poor girl who ended up with Jack.

The rest is here.

You have said the magic word. "Boundaries", the lack there of is the heart and soul of the present problem.

The Bible says "He that hath

The Bible says "He that hath not sinned shall cast the first stone". The Republicans and Democrats will have a hard time fielding candidates in any election next time around. Competency was never a qualification, just look at the requirements in your constitutions. Only age and residency or citizenship is required. Roy Moore is a classic example and it wasn't proof of his misdeeds that did him in, only the mere accusation.

Tom, well said. Does it

Tom, well said. Does it matter if it is a Democrat or Republican or tea party or green party..that behaves that way? No. A slime ball is a slime ball. That said, I still appreciate it when a man or woman opens the door for me. I always thank them...and return the favor to others. What happened to treating one another with respect? What happened to the gentlemen?

You seem ready to destroy

You seem ready to destroy anyone who is accused of any transgression against a woman. The Duke Lacrosse case and the UVA fraternity "rape" case, among others, have shown us that women do NOT deserve to be believed in every case no matter what the facts may ultimately show.

Nearly everyone decries the Muslim treatment of women but this treatment insures that there will be no sexual harassment. That we have it here is a lack of self governance. Then there are those who consider the submission of women to be an entitlement. It is little different from the African American who believes the government (whitey) owes them something because of they way their ancestors were treated.

There is plenty of sexual harassment in the Muslim world. That you seem to have missed that part of the culture during your ventures in the ME is both puzzling and telling.

C'mon man!! Get woke!

C'mon man!! Get woke! Muslims are just another patch in the colorful quilt of diversity where the Imam and his 4 child brides can chat over the back fence with the lesbian couple next door. Never mind that the lesbian couple would be thrown off the roof of a building back in the old country.
