I watch most of my sports at a bar/restaurant, specifically two that have 8 satellites dishes each. This is good for football season as you can keep track of up to 8 1 pm games. In other seasons, you can catch football, baseball and even auto racing. At Asylum Sports Bar* in Portland you get the sound on the "big" game event or the one drawing the most patrons. At Pat's Pizza in Portland they only have game sound for playoff games, unless you are virtually the only one in there they will turn up the sound on one TV. Got to watch lots of NASCAR before football season as I would be the only person for most of Sunday afternoon. Sat night races were more of a problem.

The only problem with these set ups is weather. The satellites do not like heavy rain and snow. Nothing like watching every satellite go down as you are watching the end of a tied college game in the third overtime. Just as band is having to sit through a 6 hour rain delay at the track only to have the satellites not work when the do show the race because the storm is now hitting Maine.

* Yes, the Asylum does sports and they make fablous cheap comfort food. $5 Friday night Burittos. $ .50 wings (ten for $5) in Thursday nights and for football games (unlike other places, they don't charge extra for ranch/blue cheese sauce or celery I was shocked going to another place and seeing they charged for this stuff).

Fox News Live [not just on

Fox News Live [not just on demand] is available via a Roku however it is not free and it is not economical feasible to drop satellite/cable for the streaming media alternative to watch Foxnews live--as far as i know.
Incidentally, there are quite of number of AMG posters that use ROKU and other streaming media boxes, who read AMG but almost never post. Occasionally i receive private emails from them about this topic. Maybe they have some ideas on Fox News.

I have no interest in Blaze.

I have no interest in Blaze. I'm still not over the hangover I got from the last days of Beck on FNC, and I still find him mostly annoying when I come across him on the radio.

He doesn't 'wear well' to me.

If you have not read previous posts in this thread, below is about "Sling TV".
Dish satellite owns and is behind "Sling TV". Because there is a growing number of people that are disconnecting their satellite programming for streaming media box[ [or can no longer afford satellite programming] DISH woke up and smelled the coffee, Sling TV is an application you download to Roku or other streaming media box and the application gives a 'programming package' similar to a Dish satellite programming package. no satellite dish required.
I got a special invitation to try it out [probably 50,000 other people did too]. As of day 2, it is pretty good but i notice the programming does not seem to be High Def.

This is satellite TV's first step into non satellite programming::

On my 4th day of Sling TV. ..It is definitely not HD resolution,1080 quality, not even 720.... ,hopefully they have plans to change. Not going to renew when my free trial ends.

I am confused. Where does

I am confused. Where does the TV signal come from if you have no cable or satellite?

Never mind. It seems you must have cable internet or DSL internet and download the programs that way. I guess you don't really drop cable...you just drop cable TV. TWC internet costs about $52 per month which would continue I guess.

re:

re:
Does not have any of those channels although Dish says they will be adding channels.

re:

A quick answer: Dish likely takes their satellite feed, puts it on the Internet.

A long answer:

One cord from your Internet service to your router[dont need a computer].
One cord from your router to the Roku.
The Roku has a cord connected to your TV,
The Roku pulls in "Video channels" from the Internet and sends them to your TV

Dish now has their own "Video Channel" on the Internet[called Sling Tv]
[Dish likely takes their own satellite feed and feeds it into the Internet]

One does not need a computer except to go on the Roku page to set up an account
Also, to buy some Video Channels that have a charge, Dish charges $20 a month

Our thing is NESN. My wife

Our thing is NESN. My wife doesn't care what we have, as long as she gets to watch her Red Sox. So, we're paying $100 a month for Red Sox. I don't miss TV at all, other than the Pats in the height of the season. .

re:
Fox news *LIVE* [and its live, not prerecorded] is available via Roku and other streaming boxes, but it is not free.
.
The USTVnow channel is available on Roku and other streaming media boxes. USTV is a channel for overseas US military personnel which is how i found it, but you can add/watch the channel here in the US too. . One buys programming packaging like satellite programming, FOX live is one of the channels.

USTVnow has a free trial however the free trial does not have FOX news live.
I pay a monthly fee for USATVnow, i am watching FOX LIVE now

The day is coming, real soon, there will be no need for satellite dishes on houses. All programing can travel though an Internet stream and most of it does already.

Most of my TV watching is via cable streaming. I use Netflix - although their inventory is getting pretty useless, and just started with AcornTV....100% British shows. AcornTV is great. Tried HuluPlus but it caters to the X-rated sexual stuff more than my wife will let me watch. Will drop it. We gave up all the Time Warner premium channels long time ago and don't miss it.

So for the heck of it during a break at work, i go to check out Dish satellite's offers.
This ad is from Dish ,not a reseller. Contacted them, asked, 'how much is my monthly bill after 12 months? IS it $34.99 or $59.99? They would not give an answer. Kept asking if "do i want to order DIsh today". Asked again, they asked why not order today? I said i need to know how much it is going to be before i ordered, they came back it depends. I hung up.

MLBaseball offers a Free Day [LIVE] of the game.
Watch online or on your HDTV via a streaming media box like Roku.
For Roku, you download the MLB channel to your streaming channel media lineup.
Local games [Red Sox are blacked out]

Have to open an account with MLB, but there is no charge ior Free Game of the Day

At this moment I am watching Pirates @ Reds, LIVE, at Great American Ball Park on my big screen without a satellite or cable box.

Bruce? Netflick, Hulu? and ?

Bruce? Netflick, Hulu? and ? [i am guessing]

Got a pm from an AMGer, they and many Mainers have no choice to have cable or satellite to get local channels. I am watching channel 6 HD right now on the HDTV via the Roku via Internet stream, ie no cable or satellite needed. Channel 5 just became available. By the way, i receive a good number of pms from AMGers over the years on this thread. AMGers that never seem to post

Cable and satellite are toast.

re:

re:

By adding the Livestream channel, you may already know there are 3 New England news stations[2 Providence RI, channels and 2 Ma. stations] that can be watched when they are live. NowheremanTV Channel has channel 7 Boston. Live
Unfortunately Maine channels are not on the Livestream or NowheremanTV channels.

I added the Playon channel. When i click the Playon channel on the Roku screem, it opens up to over a dozen of channels. You can make your own TV channel to be one of the Playon channels.. Made a script of WLBZ channel 2,than added the Script to be one of those dozens of Playon channels
In other words, if you add Playon as one of your Roku channels, you add this to Playon which automatically adds WLBZ to your Playon channels
http://www.playonscripts.com/?w=view&id=1118

[Playon is not free. They offer a 30 day money back trial. I bought a lifetime use for 20bucks --what one week of satellite or cable costs to watch the 'free' local channels. Playon's Roku code is MYPLAYON.

My Fairpoint DSL is barely faster than Dial-up. If I thought I could get Blaze TV on Roku I would buy it.
